Transcription One of the first secretarial work from home jobs to come out of the telecommuting revolution was transcription work. Transcribers receive audio files digitally from their employers, transcribe them and simply email back the transcription. A basic transcribing position, like transcribing a meeting recording, typically fetches about $1 to $3 per audio minute. Medical transcription or legal transcription, which requires the transcriptionist to understand the terms and language used in the particular field, can earn anywhere from $2 to $5 per audio minute. Medical transciption and legal transcription also tend to offer more job opportunities. Data Entry Data entry is the easiest secretarial, work-from-home field to get into. Unfortunately, it's also one of the lowest paid. Unless the data entry job requires a high level of English fluency, many data entry telecommuters are seeing their jobs being outsourced internationally to operators who charge a fraction of their rates. Typically, a data entry position will pay by the job, rather than the hour. However, most data entry telecommuting positions work out to between $10 to $15 per hour. General Administration Commonly referred to as a “virtual secretary” or a “virtual assistant,” this type of secretarial work from home job doesn't differ too much from a standard 9-5 office job. Employers route calls right to their administrator's home line, with communication occurring mostly through instant messenger and e-mail. Just like an office job, your employer will expect you to take calls, write letters, prepare invoices, and handle tasks like simple accounting. The secretarial work from home field is rapidly expanding. Unfortunately, along with the job market, so are the available number of workers. As more of the world gains access to high-speed Internet, the competition for telecommuting positions grows.
