Because some environmental technology jobs will require you to work with hazardous materials or perform lab work, you may be required to obtain additional certification.

Environment technology jobs are on the rise with specialist fields like solid waste management and water pollution control really expanding.
Over the next decade, the United States will spend close to a trillion dollars managing its waste and wastewater. That kind of spending means better salaries and an excellent career outlook.
Also, as government regulations become stricter, the need for environmental technicians will increase as companies need to work harder to meet stringent guidelines.
So, increased government regulations means an increased number of environmental technology jobs.
Types of Environmental Technology Careers
Most environmental technicians specialize in a certain area. Here are some common specializations:
Emissions Technician – Tracks and measures machinery and vehicles emissions and pollutant levels.
Hazardous Materials Technician – Identifies hazardous materials like asbestos or chemicals and organizes clean ups.
Health & Safety Technician – Makes sure organizations and businesses meet current health and safety standards.
Laboratory/Field Technician – Performs tests in the field or laboratory to measure or monitor our environmental resources such as soil, water or air quality.
Radiation Technician – Helps test for radiation and organize clean ups to reduce potential exposure to humans or the environment.
Water Quality Technician – Monitors and controls the water treatment process. Typically involves regularly taking water samples and adjusting water treatment equipment.
